Spring 2018 Officer Applications

With some of our awesome officers graduating, we have some officer positions open for next semester, spring 2018! We also have one new position, Design Captain, who will work very closely with the Media Director. Read on to see how to apply and which positions are open. You are allowed to apply for multiple positions, and be sure to follow all instructions to be considered.

WiCS Open Officer Positions

A.      The Vice President of Women in Computer Science, in the absence or disability of the President, will be responsible for carrying out all of the duties of the President during their absence. The Vice President shall:

  1. Preside over WiCS Officer Board meetings at the request of or in the absence of the President.

  2. Act as proxy for the President at University or Student Government functions at the President’s request.

  3. Act as alternate WiCS representative at faculty meetings, in the event the President is unable to attend.

  4. Update the WiCS Google Calendar with WiCS events.

  5. Make sure the constitution policies are upheld

  6. Be the proactive coordinator for logistical and policy matters for all major WiCS events and happenings.

  7. Oversee officer duties or step in when an officer is unable to perform those duties.

 

B.       The Treasurer is responsible for Women in Computer Science's finances. The Treasurer shall:

  1. Keep records of all financial actions taken by the WiCS board.

  2. Submit the annual budget to be approved by the executive and officer boards. May submit the budget to faculty advisors and department representatives upon request.

  3. Oversee block grant requests in accordance with the WiCS Block Grant Policy.

  4. Purchase food for officer board meetings.

 

C.        The Secretary is responsible for keeping the minutes of all Women in Computer Science meetings and other documentation.  The Secretary shall:

  1. Record officer and general meeting minutes.

  2. Handle room reservations for events and meetings.

  3. Keep track of WiCS member event sign-ins for expense reimbursement.

  4. Maintain the upkeep of the WiCS Constitution.

  5. Be the point of contact for any discrepancies and checking of the WiCS Constitution.

  6. Book rooms for member events.

 

E.       The Media Director is responsible for maintaining, coordinating, supporting, and improving the functionality, operation, and navigability of the Women in Computer Science website. The site is constantly adding new material, some of which is time-critical, and must be posted immediately. The Media Director shall:

  1. Update the WiCS website with upcoming WiCS events and current information (current and past officers, photos, etc.).

  2. Update the DiamondHacks website with new information.

  3. Redesign or make changes to the website if desired.

  4. Make announcements on WiCS social media accounts.

  5. Update the WiCS Instagram and YouTube channels with new photos and videos.

  6. Maintain a line of communication with the CSC Public Relations team to announce news

  7. Create Facebook events.

  8. Post about WiCS events, reminders, and opportunities on the WiCS Facebook, Twitter, and other social media pages.

  9. Photograph events and upload to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the website.

 

E.       The Design Captain is responsible for WiCS branding standards and maintaining relationships with vendors to be able to order swag for the organization. Events will need their own flyers and swag will need to be new each year (unless there are enough leftovers from the previous year). The Design Captain shall:

  1. Make and place posters and fliers around campus.

  2. Create all digital promo images for events (to be given to the media director for the website and social media).

  3. Design any swag the organization or the hackathon needs and order them.

  4. Be able to design/create in GIMP or Photoshop and InkScape or Illustrator (previous experience not necessary but must be willing to learn).

 

G.      The Ambassador is responsible for helping set-up and tear-down events as well as increasing membership and attendance to the events. The Ambassador shall:

  1. Attend officer and general body meetings.

  2. Help any of the other Officer Board members with their duties when requested.

  3. Help organize and attend WiCS events.

  4. Encourage participation and interaction between members.

  5. Spread the word about WiCS to encourage membership and attendance to meetings and events.

 

In addition, there is one Lead Ambassador whose responsibilities include:

  1. All previous duties assigned to ambassador(s).

  2. Taking ambassador attendance for all meetings and events.

  3. Encouraging and leading the ambassador(s) in their duties (be an example for others).

 

*Please keep in mind that Media Director and Design Captain will work together closely and the Design Captain is a design and art heavy role!*
